John Lennon's first guitar was a Gallotone Champion - a Dutch built South African guitar, much prized by skiffle players.
A three-quarter sized, flat top guitar built from laminated woods and; "Guaranteed not to split". Not sure if the guarantee holds good some 70 years later but to be fair it still hasn't split!
In fact, whilst somewhat scratched and scraped in places, this instrument is solid, entirely original and even playable!
